Your filter is the primary defense against cloudy, unsafe water. When it’s dirty, overdue for service, or running with a damaged component, everything downstream suffers water clarity drops, chemical efficiency falls, and your pump works harder than it should.

FILTER CLEANING & REPAIR — ALL TYPES

The filter is one of the most consistently overlooked components in a pool system until it causes a visible problem. Pool water passes through the filter continuously, and over time the filter media accumulates oils, minerals, scale, and fine debris that reduce its ability to trap contaminants effectively. A filter operating at reduced capacity doesn’t just affect water clarity it makes chemical balancing harder, puts extra load on the pump motor, and can allow algae spores and bacteria to pass through the system unchecked.

At Pool Tech USA, we clean and service all three types of pool filters sand, cartridge, and diatomaceous earth and we carry out any necessary repairs to housings, valves, grids, and laterals while the filter is apart. Every filter service includes a pressure differential check before and after to confirm the cleaning has restored proper flow, and a full inspection of all internal components for wear or damage.

The Three Filter Types We Service

Sand Filters

Backwashed to remove trapped debris. Sand media replaced every 5–7 years as it rounds and loses filtration efficiency. Multiport valve and laterals inspected at each service.

Cartridge Filters

Cartridges removed, rinsed, and deep-cleaned with filter cleaner solution to remove oils and scale. Replaced when pleats crack or fibers break down and can no longer hold a seal.

DE Filters

Grids backwashed and deep-cleaned, then recharged with fresh diatomaceous earth. Grids inspected for tears. The finest filtration available down to 2–5 microns when properly maintained.

Signs Your Filter Needs Service

Rising filter pressure is one of the most reliable signs that cleaning is overdue. Every filter has a normal operating range. When the pressure gauge reads 8–10 PSI above that baseline, the filter media is loaded. This reduces water flow and puts extra strain on the pump. Many homeowners do not check their pressure gauge regularly. That’s why filter service is included in our weekly maintenance visits. We catch rising pressure before it becomes a bigger issue.

Cloudy or hazy pool water that does not clear, even after proper chemical treatment, is another warning sign. If the water chemistry is balanced but clarity is poor, the filter may be the problem. It could be too dirty to remove fine particles. It may also have a damaged component, such as a torn DE grid, a cracked cartridge, or worn laterals in a sand filter. These issues allow unfiltered water to bypass the system and return to the pool.

Short filter cycles are another indicator of trouble. If pressure rises quickly after a backwash, there may be a deeper issue. The filter could be undersized for the pool. The media may be worn out and need replacement. There may also be a high load of algae, debris, or metals entering the system. Instead of repeating cleanings, we identify and fix the root cause.

Pool Tech USA services all major filter brands, including Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, and Sta-Rite. We serve Brea, Yorba Linda, Fullerton, Placentia, Anaheim, and Corona. Filter cleaning and repair are available as standalone services or as part of our weekly residential and commercial maintenance plans.
